Turn PDF pages into JPG images at the right DPI for slides, WhatsApp, social posts or print. See the pixel size an A4 page gives at 72, 150 and 300 DPI.
A PDF page has a physical size, such as A4, but a JPG only has pixels. DPI, or dots per inch, is the bridge between the two. It tells the converter how many pixels to create for each inch of the page. Higher DPI means a sharper, larger image. Lower DPI means a lighter file that may blur on zoom.
Getting this one setting right matters more than anything else in a PDF to JPG converter.
| DPI | Pixel size of one A4 page | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 72 | 595 x 842 | Quick previews, thumbnails |
| 96 | 794 x 1123 | On-screen viewing, emails |
| 150 | 1240 x 1754 | WhatsApp, slides, social posts, most web use |
| 200 | 1654 x 2339 | Readable small print, document uploads |
| 300 | 2480 x 3508 | Printing, OCR, archiving |
Pixel count climbs fast with each step. A 300 DPI page has four times the pixels of a 150 DPI page, so expect much larger files. US Letter pages come out slightly wider and shorter, at 1275 x 1650 pixels when converted at 150 DPI.
Messaging apps and social platforms usually recompress images on upload. Anything far beyond 150 DPI tends to get scaled down anyway. For an Instagram carousel made from slides, 150 DPI gives enough width to look crisp on phones.
Slides rarely need more than 1920 pixels across. A standard widescreen slide exported at 150 DPI comes out about 2000 pixels wide, which covers this comfortably.
Use 300 DPI. Printers need the density, and text recognition software reads small fonts more accurately at higher resolution.
Portals often cap image uploads in kilobytes. Convert at 150 DPI, then check the size. If the JPG is still too heavy, lower quality to around 75 rather than dropping below 100 DPI. Text survives moderate compression far better than it survives too few pixels.
Each page becomes an image you can drop into slides, chats or design tools. Keep the original PDF as your master copy.

Use 150 DPI for screens, slides and social sharing. Choose 200 DPI for uploads with small print, and 300 DPI for printing or OCR. Higher settings sharpen the image but quickly increase file size. Pick the lowest that meets your need.
The DPI was probably too low, often 72 or 96, which gives few pixels per page. Text then softens when you zoom in. Convert again at 150 or 200 DPI, and keep JPG quality around 85 or higher.
Not without the password, because the page content is encrypted. Open the file with the password, save an unprotected copy and convert that version. If the PDF blocks printing or copying, you may also need the owner password.
Choose that page if the converter lets you select pages. If not, split the page out with a PDF splitter first, then convert the one-page file. This saves time and avoids downloading dozens of unwanted images.
PNG is better for pages full of text, charts or line drawings, because edges stay perfectly crisp. JPG suits pages dominated by photographs, since files are much smaller. For mixed pages, a high-quality JPG is usually a fair compromise.
An A4 page at 300 DPI is about 2480 x 3508 pixels. At 150 DPI it is about 1240 x 1754 pixels. These figures come from multiplying A4's size of 8.27 x 11.69 inches by the DPI value.
No, a JPG is a flat picture, so the text becomes pixels. You cannot select, search or copy it directly. Run the image through OCR software if you need editable text, ideally after converting at 300 DPI for better accuracy.
